Warm Welcome for the Injured Worker Activists by Struggling Workers of Shriram Piston, Bhiwadi
Gurgaon Mazdoor Sangharsh Samiti: ‘Workers’ movement is not afraid of such cowardly attacks.’
May 6, Bhiwadi, Rajasthan. As is well-known, on May 5, the hired goons of Shriram Piston Management brutally attacked four worker activists of ‘Gurgaon Mazdoor Sangharsh Samiti’ and ‘Bigul Mazdoor Dasta’, who were distributing pamphlets outside the Ghaziabad plant of Shriram Piston. As a result, two activists Tapish and Anand sustained a fracture in the leg and Anand also sustained a serious head injury. Moreover, the other two activists Ajay and Akhil also were seriously injured in this cowardly attack. Today, these activists arrived at the venue of workers protest in Pathredi-Chaupanki industrial area in Bhiwadi, where hundreds of workers have been protesting for last three weeks. Activists received warm and rousing welcome from the struggling workers of Bhiwadi. Workers lifted them on shoulders and raised slogans.
Union leader of the struggling workers, Mr. Harikishan briefed the workers about the incident of yesterday, that is the deadly attack by the goons of Shriram Piston Ghaziabad on the activists of ‘Gurgaon Mazdoor 
Sangharsh Samiti’ and ‘Bigul Mazdoor Dasta’. He told how these activists were distributing pamphlets to gather support for Shriram Piston Bhiwadi workers among the Shriram Piston Ghaziabad workers and suddenly around a dozen hired bouncers and goons of company management arrived on the scene and attacked these activists iron rods, lathis and sticks. Their intent was clearly murderous. After beating these activists brutally outside the plant, they dragged the activists inside the plant where the Ghaziabad police was already present. Then the activists were beated brutally for hours in front of the Ghaziabad police. Afterwards, they were taken to Sihani gate police station, where the police, instead of taking action on the attackers, tried to lodge an FIR against the activists themselves. However, due to pressure from workers organizations, democratic rights organizations and intellectuals, the Police did not succeed in this and was forced to release the activists. However, all this while, the injured activists were suffering from immense pain and were left unattended by the Police. After briefing the incident to the workers, Mr. Harikishan invited one the injured activists, Tapish of ‘Bigul Mazdoor Dasta’ to address the gathering.
Tapish conveyed his revolutionary greetings to the struggling workers and said that the latest
cowardly attack on the activists of GMSS and Bigul Mazdoor Dasta shows that the struggling workers of Bhiwadi are on the right path. It also shows that the owners and management of Shriram Piston as well as the governments of UP and Rajasthan have become paranoid about the workers movement of Bhiwadi. Shriram Piston management is trying every trick in the trade to suppress the movement like buying up Police, Judges, Governments and bouncers and goons. However, all these heinous attempts have only led to the intensification of workers’ struggle. However, the workers of Shriram Piston Bhiwadi need to go beyond the boundaries of their factory and forge unity with automobile workers of entire NCR region. The issues raised by Shriram Piston workers are the issues of every automobile worker. So, there is a need to forge a sectoral unity of workers in the entire region. Otherwise, we cannot fight the unified strength of owners, management, government, police, goons, etc. However, if we unite these forces of capital will definitely bite the dust.

Consequently, Ajay of ‘Gurgaon Mazdoor Sangharsh Samiti’ addressed the gathering of struggling workers. Ajay said the ‘crime’ of workers of Shriram Piston Bhiwadi was that they demanded to exercise their constitutional right to form a union. And how did the governments of Rajasthan and UP respond? How did the criminally insane management of Shriram Piston respond? First, the mixed gang of Police and bouncers attacked the struggling workers on April 26 and unlawfully arrested 26 workers. And then on May 5, the activists of ‘Gurgaon Mazdoor Sangharsh Samiti’ and ‘Bigul Mazdoor Dasta’, who had been part of the movement, were brutally attacked by the hired goons of Shriram Piston Ghaziabad management; even the UP police is working hand-in-glove with the criminal management of Shriram Piston. All of this clearly shows that when it comes to serve the corporate houses and suppress workers movement for just rights, there is no difference between the BJP government of Rajasthan and the Samajwadi Party government of UP. Earlier, during the struggles of Honda, Maruti, Rico, etc, the Congress government of Haryana had already showed that it is one of the best servants of capital in the entire country. All the electoral bourgeois parties are now shamelessly licking the feet of corporate houses and brutally repressing the workers wherever and whenever they raise their voice against injustice and exploitation. They have the money power as well as muscle power. However, if the millions of automobile workers of NCR region unite themselves in one powerful independent sectoral union, the money power and muscle power of the servants of capitalists will be useless and ineffective. The company management and owners as well as the governments are afraid of this very possibility and that is why they are cowardly attacking us. Ajay said that ‘Gurgaon Mazdoor Sangharsh Samiti’ has been participating in this movement and will continue to do so. Ajay said, “We will take legal action against the Shriram Piston management, goons and bouncers who attacked us and also the Ghaziabad Police which colluded with the factory management. This attack is an attack on the movement of struggling workers of Bhiwadi and workers will give a fitting reply to it. If need comes we will organize a demonstration at the central office of Shriram Piston in New Delhi.” In the end, team of ‘Gurgaon Mazdoor Sangharsh Samiti’ and ‘Bigul Mazdoor Dasta’ presented a strike song ‘Jari hai hartal’.
